Along the edges of the ProBook 4510s notebook you get four USB 2.0 ports, an optical drive, an SD card slot, microphone and headphone ports, D-Sub and Gigabit Ethernet ports, as well as an ExpressCard/34 slot. On a laptop as big as this the lack of a full-sized ExpressCard/54 slot is a drawback and HP Pavilion dv2000 battery slightly limits its expansion options. We like the fact that a HDMI port is included so that you can connect to a big-screen TV or monitor, but we wish the laptop also had an eSATA port.

The use of a 2.1GHz Intel Core 2 Duo T6500 processor and 4GB of RAM gave the NW-120J the necessary horsepower to manage a PCMark Vantage score of 3,225, which beat the HP G60 (2,844) and the HP Pavilion dv6t (1030us) (2,924) systems but couldn’t touch the Editors’ Choice Dell(Dell Vostro 1500 battery) Studio XPS 16 (3,995). It’s Cinebench R10 and Windows Media Encoder scores of 4,285 and 1:16, respectively, were also impressive, but the more powerful Dell system retained the top scores for both tests.
New to this model is a slot for one full-sized SD or SDHC flash memory card, replacing the ExpressCard slot in preceding MacBook Pros. Those who still need ExpressCard will find it in the 17-inch MacBook Pro. SD Card for ExpressCard is a worthwhile trade,Sony VGP-BPS2 battery, although I’d have gone for a bit more spacing between ports as well. You still can’t plug two average USB devices in side by side.

Netbooks have been on the market for almost two years now, and the category is showing some signs of maturity. While the innards are pretty much identical we’re starting to see some designs that are taking a step beyond the norm. It’s been rumoured for a while that Apple(M8983 Battery for PowerBook G4) would release its own version of the netbook, but the closest we are likely to ever get is this: the Samsung N310.
