A somewhat shakier rumor is that Apple’s is thinking about buying iCall, not just for the fitting name, but because they’re a VoIP company. If Apple(A1175 Battery)’s really diving into the internet stuff, an internet calling service makes some sense. Also, though unrelated, it’s interesting that after Apple blocked the app Podcaster for being iTunesy, it later released the functionality it provided, and Apple’s complaint about Google Voice and other GV apps, were that they “duplicated” functionality.

Unfortunately, the keyboard area did demonstrate some discomforting flex when pressed down on, always a bit of a pet peeve for us. Even so, the raised keyboard still had sufficient firmness when typing to not be a major problem. While we’d say the Lenovo(Thinkpad W500 Batteries) U350 feels more high-end and polished in its construction, the Asus UL30 is on the better side of laptop build quality and appears a few hairs short of excellent.
The ASUS Power4Gear power management utility also affects which graphics adapter is used: when you are in high-performance mode, the NVIDIA adapter will be used, while in Inspiron 6400 battery-saving mode the notebook will employ the Intel adapter. Annoyingly every time we enabled the power-saving profile it would auto-hide the taskbar, so we had to change this setting every time.
Even though Google envisions storing user data in the cloud, information is necessarily cached on a smartbook’s internal storage - that’s what it’s there for.Bonus points accrue for built-in two-factor authentication using biometrics or plug-in tokens.
So that’s the gear I am taking with me this year. It is a kit that is as light and small as possible, yet will provide a professional work environment as needed. My only concern is that it won’t all fit in my trusty Booq backpack. I love traveling with that bag as it is thin and light yet keeps all my gear in easily accessible reach. Having the two cameras with me might preclude being able to use the Booq,PA3284U-1BRS, though, so I might need to carry a bigger backpack this year. I really hate using a bag bigger than the Booq for the daily excursions, but I might have to do so.
